10. Valo curing light by Ultradent

This is the go to curing light of choice. The slim shape allows for close access to the patient’s tooth; especially important as conversion rate is highly dependent on distance.

It’s a durable piece of kit that has withstood being dropped several times! A host of lens covers are available for different uses too. I use the green lens for locating cracks and the black light to show up previous composites.

Purchase on the Valo light product page, available from Optident.

9. Ultracare topical anaesthetic

A sought after product that gets to work very quickly and gives you plenty of working time to deliver your anaesthetic slowly and painlessly.

The bubblegum flavour is popular with children. Nervous patients appreciate the step and care the dentist takes in making them comfortable.

8. Air Flow Master by EMS

afmp pic blog.pngEMS are the market leader in Air Biofilm therapy loved by hygienists and periodontists.

The Air Flow Master Unit is ideal for all prophylaxis from supra-gingival stain removal to, now most importantly, sub-gingival implant maintenance therapy. Implant maintenance protocols should be developed in the practice as part of the responsibility to the continued care of the patient.

A range of comfortable, yet effective powders made from sodium bicarbonate, glycene and erythritol have been developed.

Purchase the Air-Flow Master Piezon on the product page, available from Optident.

7. Bioclear Matrix and the Bioclear Method by David Clark

biofit pic blog.pngThe Bioclear Method uses the injection moulding technique with site specific, anatomically shaped anterior and also posterior matrices.

Rather than fiddly Mylar strips, this easy to learn systematised process is the best way in my hands to get a decent anterior diastema closure.

For posterior composite restorations, the Diamond Wedges are excellent and the Twin Rings apply separation of the teeth and and create a firm seal with the matrix.

Browse and purchase the range of Bioclear products on the product page, available from Optident.

6. Identium by Kettenbach

My favourite impression material. It combines a mixture of polyether materials and A-Silicones. Whether a one stage or spacer impression, I always get great results.

It always comes out cleanly and easily, especially with implant impressions.

Purchase Identium or any of the Kettenback product range here.

5. Affinity Crystal and Clear Trays by Clinicians Choice

This is as silicone matrix for easy fabrication of provisional veneers and onlays, allowing you to light cure through the matrix. Because it is transparent you can place the filled matrix with heated composite intraorally and inspect for voids and bubbles prior to curing. I have also used it for the occlusal stamp technique.

The Clear impression Trays are also useful to help support the Affinity Crystal matrix in extended cases.

Affinity Crystal by Clinicians Choice is available to buy from Optident.

4. Isolite by Zyris

The Isolite is a must have in my opinion for general and microscope dentistry. It provides intraoral illumination, tongue and cheek retraction, and dual quadrant hands-free suction, freeing up the dental assistant.

It is especially useful if I struggle with dam isolation and is a great safety net protecting the patients’ airway when I’m restoring implants or cementing indirects, especially gold onlays on upper 7s!

The Isolite is available to purchase from Optident on the product page.

3. Deppeler instruments

This Swiss company has been making beautiful ergonomic dental instruments for 80 years.  They invented the M23 universal scaler and have colour coding of Gracey curettes for easier use. They have a great range of surgical and restorative kits and the NM2 enamel margin trimmer is great for planing smooth margins.

Browse and purchase the range of Deppeler instruments on the Optident website.

2. Kaps microscopes

kaps pic blog.png

The easiest way to improve the quality of your work is to see more under brighter illumination. It’s also great for back health and patients know and appreciate the quality care you are providing.

I have a wall mounted scope with the added feature of an electric zoom. This is really useful for exams and restorative work where I need to see different perspectives.

Not only has it improved my posture, but the quality of my work has improved as the magnification provides me with much more detail.

1. White Dental Beauty tooth whitening gels

WDB-2017-Group-shot(LR).jpg

White Dental Beauty is different to other tooth whitening. It gives faster whitening due to its Novon ‘pH jump’ technology and has the benefit of enhanced stability and a long shelf life.

It comes in a wide variety of formulations which I find useful as it allows me a choice of individualised products, rather than a one gel fits all scenario. The 5% carbamide peroxide kit is especially useful for patients with sensitive teeth who cannot usually whiten with stronger formulations.

All kits including the 10% and 16% carbamide peroxide and the fast acting 6% hydrogen peroxide contain desensitisers and are all finished in beautiful packaging which can be practice branded.

Optident exclusively sell White Dental Beauty tooth whitening gels and their new Professional CompoSite System
