How Theracem Ca Can Be Your Secret Weapon

Written by Optident | 27 June 2018

The last few years have seen the indirect-restorative product offering dramatically increase. Materials and techniques have evolved, often resulting in longer chair time and increased technique sensitivity. With so many options to choose from, selecting the correct cement is a critical step in ensuring both long-term restorative success and overall patient satisfaction.

In our latest blog, we examine how BISCO’s latest trusted product, Theracam Ca can be your secret weapon when working with indirect restorations. We discover what sets it apart from other self-adhesive resin cements, exploring what makes it truly unique.

What is Theracem?

Theracem Ca is a dual-cured, calcium releasing, self-adhesive resin cement indicated for luting crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays and posts (prefabricated metal/non-metal/fiber posts).

Theracem's Hidden Secrets!

1. Continuous Calcium Release

As the name suggests, Theracem Ca is a calcium (and fluoride) releasing cement, featuring continuous ion release*

The graph to the right illustrates continuous calcium release throughout the storage time period (0-70 days).

Theracem Ca also contains calcium silicate which studies have suggested can potentially assist with the restoration of tooth structure.

2. High Degree of Conversion

Offering a high degree of conversion, Theracem Ca improves physical properties for added bond strength.

The graph to the right illustrates the performance of Theracem Ca against top competitor RelyX™ Unicem 2 Automix (another self-adhesive resin cement).

Note how Theracem Ca performs significantly higher on shear bond strength in every category: Lithium Disilicate, Titanium, Stainless Steel and Zirconia.

3. Strong Bond to Zirconia

Theracam Ca is dual cured, featuring a strong bond to zirconia (and most substrates), without the need for separate chemical primers with no priming or etching required.

The graph to the right illustrates the performance of Theracem Ca against key competitors in terms of shear bond strength to Zirconia.

Theracem Ca achieves the highest shear bond strength of 29.8 MPa (significantly higher than the competitors tested).

4. Alkaline pH & Radiopaque Properties

Theracem Ca has been uniquely designed to transition from an acidic pH (needed for initial bonding), to a preferred alkaline pH, within minutes**

It is also highly radiopaque, making it easy to identify on radiographs, facilitating quick and effective diagnosis.

5. Ease of Use

Theracem Ca offers quick and easy clean up, along with an 18 month shelf life and no refrigeration requirements.

The auto-mix, dual-syringe provides a consistent mix for immediate delivery (via tips).

Taking only 2-3 seconds to tack cure, clean up and removal of excess cement is quick and convenient for both patient and practitioner.
