Products For Everyday endodontic Procedures

Successful endodontic treatments depend entirely on the thorough cleansing of the root canals, and in order to assist clinicians in facilitating this procedure Ultradent has an extensive range of endodontic products that are distributed in the UK by Optident.

Ultradent has a long-standing reputation for providing extremely useful products that are not only highly effective, but often packaged with novel, and present practical delivery methods. To describe all of its endodontic products would take considerable time, so this article will feature some of the more everyday items that have successful track records of reliability and performance, and will complement everyday endodontic procedures.

EndoRez Refill - Optident Ltd

Endorez canal sealer, the two part syringe enables optimal mixing.

Obturation
With obturation being the final step in a typical endodontic treatment, it can often dictate the success or failure of the entire procedure. An ideal and efficient obturation material should be biocompatible, stable and succeed in achieving a highly effective seal. It should also be a material that can be delivered to the appropriate site in a quick and easy manner, completely filling all the canal spaces without the occurance of voids, and be easily removable in case of any retreatment.

Ultradent’s Endorez canal sealer has been developed to fulfil these requirements. It is biocompatible, non-toxic and hydrophilic, and will bond to resin-based core/composite materials. It has good anti-bacterial properties, and has the same radiopacity as gutta percha. The material is mixed in a two-part syringe with transfer to a Skini dispensing syringe onto which an Ultradent Navitip is attached (29 gauge size is recommended for best results).

For those users who require a rapid set, there is an Endorez Accelerator available. This product will prove useful where the operator also wishes to commence the start of any coronal restorations, thus reducing chair time for the patient.

Irrigants and lubricants
The use of correct irrigants and lubricants within the root canal can significantly ease the procedures involved in cleaning and preparing endodontically treated areas.

The large 30ml syringe of Ultradent EDTA 18% solution

Ultradent EDTA 18% can be used as a chelating agent for conditioning and cleaning. It is effective in smear layer removal, and is best used as an irrigant prior to obturation procedures. EDTA is also used as a file lubricant in another Ultradent product known as File-Eze.

File-Eze 1.2ml dispensing syringe with attached Navitip

This is a 19% EDTA in a water-soluble viscous solution and is intended for use as a chelating agent and lubricant. It can also be used in root debriding. The product is supplied in 1.2ml syringes and delivery is best effected with the Ultradent 29 or 30 gauge Navitips.

Ultradent Citric Acid 20% solution is an effective cleanser/ conditioner for use in the preparation of root canals. It will remove mineral and smear layers and will dissolve calcium hydroxide based pastes.

The product comes in a large 30ml syringe, and can be dispensed into smaller syringes to which a Navitip or Navitip FX can be attached. The Navitip FX has an integrated brush feature that enables scrubbing and cleaning with simultaneous irrigation.

Ultracal XS is a calcium hydroxide paste that is both aqueous and radiopaque. It is well known that calcium hydroxide is an effective antibacterial agent due to its high pH level of 12.5. Potentially, it has the ability to stimulate the healing of bone, and like previously mentioned products it is best delivered using the larger 29 gauge Navitip. Use of the Navitip will enable easier direct placements and predictable flow. Thorough removal of Ultracal XS paste from canals can be effected by the use of Ultradent Citric Acid and a Navitip FX.

It is worth noting that all the Ultradent irrigants and lubricants are compatible with methacrylate resin sealers.
